Yantra Mat USA Introduces the Yantra Kit!

July 6, 2010 – 4:10 pm

The exclusive U.S. distributors of The Yantra Mat (www.YantraWay.com), release The Yantra Kit—a complete, three-part, self-treatment acupressure kit for the body. The Kit will include an acupressure pillow (for head/neck/body), acupressure belts (for arms/legs/body) and acupressure rings (for fingers).

Like The Yantra Mat, the various components of the kit are studded with non-toxic ABS plastic acupressure spikes. Although these spikes feel sharp at first, after a few minutes of use, they give way to a tingling sensation. This indicates that the blood is circulating, leading to the better delivery of nutrients and the release of endorphins and oxytocin, also known as “the feel good hormones.” Within minutes, this improved blood flow triggers a deep sense of relaxation.

The Yantra Belt, which can be used in full or zips to divide in half, is a tool that makes it easy to access the most difficult-to-reach body parts. The Yantra Pillow is inflatable and designed to adapt to fit the area requiring stimulation, be it the neck or any other area of the body. Finally, The Yantra Ring provides acupressure for tired and/or stiff fingers. The Ring will help to attain warm, pleasant fingers and alleviate temporary aches in the joints.

To celebrate the launch of The Yantra Kit, those who purchase from YantraWay.com during the month of July (2010) will receive 20% off their total order (just enter the coupon code “RELAX” at checkout).

The Yantra Kit is priced at $29 for the kit on its own, or $69 for the kit along with The Yantra Mat.

A.R.T. presents: The Art-Rethought BLOG

June 4, 2010 – 5:56 pm

New this week, Donald Rattner, architect and founder of A.R.T. (a storefront for customizable modular art) has launched an art and design blog: Art-Rethought (www.art-rethought.com/blog). This blog is a destination where Rattner will explore and illustrate how digital innovations in manufacturing are impacting art and design. The blog will feature product reviews, interviews, events, and opinion pieces in the art, architecture, industrial / interior design and fashion fields.

MISSION STATEMENT:
“Henry Ford, move over – the New Industrialism is here. Mass customization, modular design, co-creation, robotics, production on demand, open innovation and other computer-driven technologies are changing the way things are made all over the globe. Inevitably they’ll change the fields of art and design too – not only how work is produced, but how it’s thought about. In fact, the shift has already begun. Our goal is to show you how.” –Donald Rattner

If you would like to contribute to the blog please take a look at the submissions page.

6th Street Plays Stellar Show at Kenny’s Castaways

April 28, 2010 – 3:50 pm

6th Street performed their first NYC show last night at Kenny’s Castaways.  All I can say is, they were amazing.  The guys, Grant Cook and Mike Miller, are exactly what you hope for in a new band, incredibly talented and incredibly gracious.  Each song had its own unique sound and they guys were so into it, they came to entertain, and they did.  6th Street has another show this Saturday night at Arlene’s Grocery at 8pm.  Now that I’ve seen them live I can absolutely say without a doubt that they are a band to check out, and I for one will be checking them out again.  Take a look at the videos below to get a feel for the band.

RECAP: Exchange Bar & Grill Opening Party

April 9, 2010 – 3:28 pm

Last night, Exchange Bar & Grill celebrated its opening with a media event hosted at the brand new restaurant in the Gramercy area of Manhattan.  Party-goers were offered an open bar and a sampling of their hottest menu items including hot wings, calamari, mozzarella sticks, burgers and the signature ‘Exchange’ salad.   Usually though, patrons are asked to take a gamble, with prices of food and drink that fluctuate based on demand, on Exchange’s own in-house ‘stock market’.   Prices are broadcast on a giant ticker screen that runs the 35-foot length of the bar, posting which items are running below (-) or above (+) market price.  If everyone is drinking Guinness, the price of Guinness is going to go up—but consequently, all of Guinness’ competitors (like Killian’s) will go down.  The opening bell rings at 8pm after Happy Hour prices have come to a close, and if you play your cards right, you may just end up at the bar during an impromptu ‘Market Crash!!!!’—where drinks temporarily drop to $2 for all beers, $3 for all well drinks, and $4 for top shelf, after which point, the market resets itself.  Customers can also have fun by posting personal messages to the ticker screen, like: ‘happy birthday’ or ‘hey you at the end of the bar, can I buy you a drink!?’ The bar’s unique concept is the brainchild of friends and co-owners Damon Bae (a former stock trader turned real estate mogul) and Levent Cakar (an economist with 11 years+ in the restaurant industry).  Of the concept, Cakar says: “When you think about it, it’s a really smart way to run a restaurant.  If an item isn’t selling, it becomes really cheap and then we’re able to move the product.  It also keeps the hot ticket items from selling out and draws attention to cheaper products.  It’s all about supply and demand—and it’s an organic way to manage our inventory.” The lounge-like space features both a bar and full dinner menu, with special lunch & brunch menus expected to be introduced at a later date.

Exchange Bar & Grill is located at 256 Third Avenue between 20th & 21st Street (www.exchangebarandgrill.com).

Art is Rethought at A.R.T. Opening Reception

March 26, 2010 – 11:56 am

The opening reception for ModulA.R.T., the inaugural portfolio by A.R.T., was celebrated last night in Brooklyn. The event was held at the A.R.T. Pop-Up Store at 81 Front Street in the DUMBO area and welcomed over 100 guests. Guests had the opportunity to touch, feel, and rearrange the modular pieces while being treated to wine, beer, and hors d’oeuvres generously provided by the neighborhood’s favorite caterer: Bubby’s of Brooklyn. The A.R.T. Pop-Up Store will run through April 18th and will display several ModulA.R.T. installations.

ModulA.R.T. by A.R.T. is the first fully-customizable and co-creative modular art collection. The modular aspect allows the art to be pieced together in an infinite number of ways, literally putting the creativity in the hands of the buyer. The collection is designed by artist and architect, Donald Rattner, and includes 3 lines: Wall A.R.T., Mural A.R.T., and Shelf A.R.T.

ModulA.R.T. allows the buyer to take part in the artistic process by providing the ability to constantly add or subtract modules to a particular installation. This allows the work to grow and change over time, and be an ongoing, gradual art investment. The collection was designed to fill the gap between the high and low-end in modern art and offers a unique approach to acquiring and appreciating fine art.
