Nolcha Fashion Week AW15 Hosts the Best of Emerging Independent Fashion Designs

Nolcha Fashion Week in New York City just wrapped up the AW15 season at Pier 59 Studios in Manhattan; featuring eight different designer runway shows.

Influential celebrities who came out to support pioneering fashion design this season included: Christina Milian (Singer / TV show on E!), Hana Nitsche (Model, Russell Simmon’s girlfriend), Jessica Pimentel (Orange is the New Black), Mimi Faust (VH1’s Love & Hip Hop), Sydney Thomas (Nellyville / Nelly’s niece), Tiffany Bias (WNBA), Crezdon Butler (NFL, Detroit Lions), Derek Warburton (Celebrity Stylist), Evette Holyfield (Influencer), JW Cortes (TV’s “Gotham”), Sharna Burgess (Dancing With The Stars), and Karrueche Tran (Chris Brown’s girlfriend).

The day kicked off with Nolcha’s “Ones To Watch” show which highlighted four trend-setting designers. Yvette Hass is a new emerging Swedish designer who has been featured in Elle Denmark as a “Scandinavian Designer to Watch”, and dressed celebrity Jessica Pimentel (Orange is The New Black) for the show.  Charles & Ron  are an award-winning Maltese design duo who presented womenswear and leather bags, and featured Russell Simmons’ girlfriend Hana Nitsche walking in their show. Mitsou Ly showed her collection of women’s separates, which mix feminine style with an edgy flair, and her line is proudly manufactureald in the USA.  Haute Athletics is an NYC-based athletic wear company that featured real athletes walking in the show in lieu of traditional models including 2x Olympic Hockey Goalie, Brianne McLaughlin.

The 6:30pm runway show featured Portuguese ready-to-wear designer Katty Xiomara who has dressed trend-setting celebs like Zendaya and Kat Graham.  Here, she previewed her “RE-evolution” collection, a line that claims the right to be female, designed for women who are confident in themselves and their style choices.  Christina Milian sat front row with her best friend and sister in tow, who co-star in her new E! TV series “Christina Milian Turned Up” (her sister, Elizabeth Flores, wore an exclusive Katty Xiomara design).

The evening collective show featured three designers.  Prieston, an established Hungarian designer who has been covered in Cosmo, Marie Claire, InStyle and Glamour in her home country, kicked off the show (with Tiffany Bias of the WNBA wearing her collection).  Already a staple in Budapest, she debuted at London Fashion Week in September, and now New York Fashion Week this season.  Ann Himsel in an NYC-based designer and this was her debut collection which was completely inspired by menswear (in colors, style, fabrics, silhouettes), but tailored to fit women.  Ann Himsel’s show featured men’s boots by Cat Footwear.  Finally, Danny Nyugen Couture finished the evening with show-stopping embellished evening gowns.

Katty Xiomara

The first solo show on September 8th featured Katty Xiomara, who was fresh off her July 2014 Pret-a-Porter Sketchcolors Project Award, and presented a collection inspired by the art form of a “chocolatier” which melted geometric shapes into organic forms. The finale dress was a collaboration with Nolcha’s sponsor, OtterBox, integrating the new “Alpha Glass,” a fortified glass screen protector for mobile phones. Actresses Kat Graham, Kristen Ruhlin, and Sammi Hanratty all attended the show wearing original Katty Xiomara designs.

Menswear

The group show on September 8th featured designers: Rinat Brodach, Mariana Valentina, Sofia Arana, Mimi Tran, and a collective of menswear brands including: pants by Alberto, knitwear by Codice, shirts by Haupt, and sports jackets by Carl Gross. Celebrity friends & family came out to support model Andre King (brother of Swizz Beats and brother-in-law of Alicia Keys) as he walked in the menswear show.

Charles & Ron

The “Ones To Watch” collective show on September 9th featured emerging brands including: Monstruosite, B’VENAJ Designs, Gregory Apparel, Oiselle, JBurgos, and Charles & Ron. The collective ended with the second annual Project SUBWAY, which challenged up and coming designers to construct one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by vegetables found in a SUBWAY(R) restaurant. A celebrity panel critiqued the designs, including: Bella Thorne (actress), Johnny Wujek (celebrity stylist), Nastia Liukin (Olympic champion), and Russell Westbrook (pro basketball’s MVP of fashion and SUBWAY Famous Fan), and ultimately, they chose the onion-inspired dress by Veritee Hill as the winner.

Nolcha Fashion Week: New York announces September S/S 2015 designer lineup and new, larger venue

Nolcha Fashion Week has announced the official New York City calendar of events for it’s September’s SS15 fashion week. This season’s events will run September 6th – 10th, 2014, and to accommodate the growing interest in independent fashion design, the runway shows will take place over the course of two days (September 8th & 9th) at a brand new, much larger venue this season: Eyebeam Atelier.

Continuing in their seventh consecutive year, and held during New York Fashion week, Nolcha is one of the city’s leading platforms for global independent fashion designers, showcasing over 20 designers this season.

Presenting brands include: Katty Xiomara, Rinate Brodach, Mariana Valentina, Monstruosite, and MIMI Tran, including menswear with wearable tech.  Nolcha’s “Ones To Watch” collective runway show will feature hot emerging brands including: Sofia Arana, B’VENAJ Designs, Gregory Apparel, Oiselle, JBurgos, and Charles & Ron.

Eyebeam Atelier is located at 540 West 21st Street between 10th & 11th avenues.  Shows will take place at 6:00pm and 8:30pm on September 8th, and at 11:45am on September 9th.

RECAP: Nolcha Fashion Week: New York 2014, Presented By RUSK

Nolcha Fashion Week presented by RUSK in New York city wrapped up the AW14 season at Pier 59 Studios in Manhattan, featuring thirteen different designer runway shows.

Trend-setting celebrities who were looking to take in some refreshing talent this season, and came out to support independent fashion design included: Jennie Garth (90210), Kelly Rutherford (Gossip Girl), Zendaya (actress/singer), Elliott Sailors (womenswear & menswear top model), Kat Graham (Vampire Diaries), Derek J (Bravo’s Fashion Queens), Kristen Taekman (Real Housewives of New York), Pia Pizza (Mobwives), Jeremy Jackson (Baywatch), Frank Ferrer (Guns & Roses), Morgan O’Connor (model), Brittany Mason (model), Krystle Joy Brown (Broadway’s Motown), Katie Rose Clarke (Broadway’s Wicked), and HRH Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark.

The day kicked off with a gorgeous solo runway show at 12pm by couture designer, Léka, who wowed the audience with 22 avant-garde looks.

The 3pm solo runway show featured ready-to-wear designer Katty Xiomara, who previewed her new “Peanuts Played by Katty” collection, which was inspired by the Peanuts characters (Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the gang). Celebrity supporter, Jennie Garth, returned for the second season in a row to see Katty’s show firsthand.

The 5:30pm collective show featured Nolcha’s “Ones To Watch” designers, each debuting 10 looks on the Nolcha runway. Participating designers included: Naveda Couture, Christina Yi, Riza Manalo, Maison de Papillon, Gail Be Designs, and Christian Benner.

The closing show at 8:30pm featured 5 designers returning to Nolcha Fashion Week: Jungwon (designer men’s and women’s rain coats and outerwear, featuring footwear provided by Cat Footwear), Gabrielle Arruda (women’s ready-to-wear), L. Catherine London (women’s ready-to-wear), Nina Athanasiou (women’s and men’s couture), and Dany Tabet (jaw-dropping eveningwear).

Nina Athansiou’s show featured gender-bending female top model, Elliott Sailors, who modeled both womenswear AND menswear from Nina’s collection on the runway. This was Elliott’s first season doing both womenswear AND menswear within the same runway presentation.
