Become Eco-Friendly With This Easy Hack

AMP3 Public RelationsEnvironmental, Lifestyle

Every April, for the past 51 years, billions of people around the globe have joined together in celebration of Earth Month. Finally, I have an excuse to go thrifting or buy a new house plant!

But in all seriousness, Earth Month is a conscious reminder of how concerning our changing environment is to our ecosystem and our future. Increasing natural disasters, extreme weather, rising global temperatures, oil spills, decaying of coral reefs, ocean animals consumed with trash, it’s a heck of a horse pill to swallow. It may feel impossible for one human to make a difference, but little changes can make a huge impact, especially when millions or even billions of people step in.

One of the easiest ways you can support the environment is by making smarter choices about the brands you use, opting for ones that are doing their part to reduce waste and preserve the environment. At AMP3 PR, we are deeply passionate and committed to helping brands develop and communicate social impact campaigns that promote sustainability initiatives.

In celebration of Earth month, here are a few of our partner brands that are actively making choices to help sustain our environment:

Wrangler Jeans

A stack of Wrangler Jeans

Not only is Wrangler a global icon, but they’re also leading the charge for a more eco-friendly apparel industry. In 2008, Wrangler set ambitious sustainability goals to reduce their carbon “boot” print and went to work. From cotton production, to finally slipping into a pair of those classic jeans, one of Wrangler’s top sustainability initiatives is to conserve water without compromising quality. The denim industry is notorious for its water consumption, but by increasing both water efficiency and water recycling, as well adding practices like Indigood foam-dying, Wrangler actually surpassed their 2020 year-end goal to save 5.5 billion liters substantially. 1.5 billion liters more to be exact. That’s 7 billion liters of water – equivalent to the daily drinking water needs for half of the world’s population! Yes, that’s amazing, but Wrangler is committed. Like, really committed. So, they set a more aggressive water conservation goal of reducing water consumption by 50% by 2030. Challenge accepted, Wrangler.

They’re also tackling the fashion industry’s waste problem head on, because while Wrangler jeans are timeless, we don’t want their impression to make an impact forever. By 2025, Wrangler is committed to keeping it 💯 –  100% clean chemistry, 100% renewable energy, and 100% of their cotton will also be locally sourced, traceable, and ethically grown using land-sustaining practices like no-till farming, crop rotation, and cover cropping.

Derma E

Man doing skincare

Derma E (or Derma Eco-friendly as I like to call them) is a natural, cruelty-free, vegan skincare brand that represents the highest ethical standards when it comes to what we put on and in our bodies, and what eventually ends up in our environment. You won’t be finding their products in our coral reefs or landfills taking decades to decompose that’s for sure! Over the years, Derma E has compiled a list of over 2700 common ingredients that are banned in their products including parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates, mineral oil, petrolatum, artificial colors, gluten, soy, or GMOs, or nano-particles. When it comes to packaging, they’re a no-nonsense kind of brand. Unnecessary foil, plastic, shiny silver caps, or added decoration, you just don’t need it, so you just won’t see it. All Derma E packaging components are recyclable, and they offset 100% of conventional electricity use with wind energy certificates. Just when you thought Derma E couldn’t get any better, each purchase helps to support global communities and the environment including the Paraguay Project, Heal the Bay, Keep America Beautiful, World Wildlife Fund, Vitamin Angels, and Special Olympics: Ventura County. You just can’t beat em’.

GlassesUSA.com

Glasses on a book

Our future’s looking really bright thanks to the help of GlassesUSA.com. They just took an imperative first step towards long-term sustainability by introducing an eye-catching (no pun intended), eco-conscious eyewear collection made from upcycled materials including wood, hemp, flax, coffee, recycled fishing nets from the sea, upcycled plastic bottles, and bio-based resin. Designer brands like Stella McCartney, Hemp Eyewear, Muse, Ochis, Woodie, Arnette, Costa del Mar, WaterHaul and SeaClean, were initially introduced to encourage customers to opt for a greener choice, but now they’re aiming to have all their products be composed of at least 60% eco-friendly materials. You can shop these designer frames all year round, but during the week of Earth Day (April 19th – 25th), they will specifically be donating $5 to The Ocean Cleanup for every pair of glasses sold. That’s definitely eye-conic. (pun intended).

TENCEL™ Fibers

If your clothing tag reads “TENCEL™”,   Score. You’re making a positive environmental impact.  So what is TENCEL? This is where I’m about to get a little scientific so bear with me.

Tencel is a fiber made from cellulose found in sustainably sourced wood pulp. It’s harvested from all-natural materials and converted into a fabric using a sophisticated nanotechnology process. In simpler terms, TENCEL™ Fibers are what make your garments eco-friendly, biodegradable, and compostable. These fibers are often blended with a variety of other textile fibers such as cotton, polyester, acrylic, wool, and silk to enhance the benefits of a garment’s durability, efficient moisture absorption, long-lasting softness, breathability, and color retention.

Aside from the aesthetics and functionality benefits, Tencel has gained a commendable reputation for their environmentally responsible closed loop production process, in which 99% of the solvents used in the process are recovered and recycled with minimal waste and very low emissions.

Usually, the fiber appears in denim, athletic wear, or bedding, but you can find a variety of styles within the collections of many leading designers and major global brands like Reformation, Allbirds, J.Crew, Gap, Athleta, West Elm, Pottery Barn, Mara Hoffman, Levi’s, Patagonia, Madewell, Champion, Hanes, and Ingrid & Isabel. You just have to keep an eye out.

Want to join the environmental responsible movement and get your hands on one of these products? In celebration of Earth Month, TENCEL™ is giving away various TENCEL™ items from some of your favorite brands! Just follow TENCEL™’s Instagram and keep an eye out for the giveaways, happening all month long.
